Showcase Your Music
Here’s some advice on how to get signed to a record label. Start entering music showcases. Why? Performing or playing your music in front of someone in the industry is the fastest way to make an impression. Just because you make time to email your tracks and EPK’s to record label executives, it doesn’t mean they’re going to take the time to actually listen. The average a&r easily gets hundreds of emails per day. Think about. Industry news alerts. Internal record label memos. A gang of emails from people they don’t even know asking for record deals and meetings. The list goes on and on. I actually sympathize with an a&r’s inbox, LOL.
So, now think back to what I said earlier. By entering a music showcase, you’re standing right in front of the a&r, industry manager or record label executive. They have to respond to your music in some capacity and then of course after the event is over, you can network one on one.
There’s nothing like instant gratification sometimes. And while much of this industry is hardly ever instantly gratifying, remember that positioning yourself is key. So when thinking about how to get signed to a record label, remember that to win at anything, you have to at least be in the running.
