Hit The Stage
When considering how to get signed to a record label, don’t sleep on the notion of simply performing more. At the very least, you should be performing locally, at least once a month. Many artists get signed due to word of mouth. If you’re not constantly out in the limelight, you can’t expect word of mouth to be as impactful for you.
Regardless of where you live, you never know who may be in the audience or what opportunity can come from someone direct or someone who knows someone, who knows someone. If you really want to step it up a notch, start traveling and perform at major music festivals, conferences and showcases like DCON, SXSW or Winter Music Conference. When you travel outside of your region, it gives you an opportunity to network with people you wouldn’t normally come in contact with. Attend major industry events can give you the ultimate stage in performing directly in front of record label executives, industry managers, music publishers and more.
It’s never all about the music when you think about how to get signed to a record label. Quite often, you have to get out and showcase your talents on a bigger stage.
